So I guess this is the part where I introduce a Kid..
OK *ahem* here goes!
The last few years of my big, crazy twenties (not actually, but that's what it felt like) - I have found myself becoming *kak* passionate about personal wellbeing, wellness, self-love & self-care!
You see, it started really small: through buying Dove toiletries, to spending two hours a week blowing-drying my hair, to spending all my cash on clothing and make-up, and then keeping the change to indulge in foods that I loved.
Then through all the hustlin' of student & city life: leaving home at the age of 18, studying screenwriting, experiencing harassment in the workplace, to not making it in the film industry, and barely making it in the media/marketing worlds.
I decided to hop onto a plane to teach English & was gifted with a series of spiritual awakenings, a panic attack in a Korean forest, and lots of eating and drinking of my feelings - pizza, kimchi, whilst table-dancing in Korean nightclubs.
And then coming back home, to (literally) fighting the patriarchy in the streets of Cape Town.
AGAIN. MAN, DIDN'T I DEAL WITH THIS ALREADY?
I decided, nah! There has to be more to life than this and there has to a space where I can be myself, feel myself and take care of myself. I was right, and I moved back home, delved into healing myself, whatever that meant, doing yoga, sitting in the sun, writing & reading as much as I can. This slowly, but surely, made me realize that what I've been needing whole life was self-fk'in-care!
Without being aware of it, I have always been trying to engage with this energy and slowly I discovered there is a language around self-care and emotional well-being, sensitivity to environments, empathy and intuition are real things.
And living in a space that supports the way my body naturally functions is also the kind of self-care I have been searching for.
Now my aim is to create spaces of wellness and wellbeing through teaching yoga (I'm currently completing a yoga teacher's training), writing (the more creative side of me finds words sexy af) and sharing knowledge around wellness with others too.
I'm a massive nerd and love learning from others and assisting where I can. My personal belief is that wellness & wellbeing is for everyone. Yes - no matter what you look like and what age you are at!
Stick around if you'd like, be inspired, sign-up - so I can let you know when I'll be starting my yoga and wellness classes. And I'd be honoured to have you connect with me & passion!
I love learning from as many different places as possible and my life experiences have aided me with the best education and prepared me mentally, emotionally and spiritually for my creative work. I've also spent a great deal of time in formal and informal educational spaces. Here's a snippet of my on-going expedition:
